Asda to host Trading Places retail open day
Supermarket giant Asda is to host a major delegation of enforcement officers from councils around the UK so they can find out more about how retail business operates.
Around 25 professionals involved with trading standards, environmental health and health and safety will take part in the day-long event at Asda's Leeds headquarters on Tuesday, April 20th, as part of the Trading Places programme.
Trading Places, which seeks to make the regulatory system work better, is run by LBRO, the public body responsible for better local regulation. Chairman Clive Grace said: "It is in everyone's interest - business, consumers and local authorities - that our system of regulation runs more smoothly to ensure better protection and greater efficiency.
"Asda is taking the lead in its sector in seeking ways to improve how regulation works, and its willingness to embrace proactive schemes such as Trading Places is to its great credit."
By encouraging enforcement officers to better understand the businesses they monitor, Trading Places breaks down communication barriers, strengthens working relationships and encourages trust.
Rob Chester, Head of Risk & Insurance at Asda, said: "We have been instrumental in supporting a number of the LBRO initiatives. As a major retailer we believe we have a responsibility to open our doors to the enforcement community to show how we operate and demonstrate what makes us tick."
Trading Places is open to any size of business. Available in one or two-day formats, Trading Places gives enforcement officers the opportunity to see the impact of their decisions on companies by placing them at the business-end of regulation.
Trading Places is endorsed by business organisations including the CBI, British Chambers of Commerce, British Retail Consortium; the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Trading Standards Institute.
