KFC signs up to red tape cutting initiative
8 April 2011
KFC, one of the world's leading quick service restaurant companies, has signed up to a scheme that will cut local red tape for its operations in hundreds of outlets across the UK.
It is now working with Woking Borough Council in a primary authority partnership, a legally binding agreement that means the Local Authority will act as a single point of reference for all food safety and hygiene, and health and safety regulations.
Tracy Colbert, Senior Health and Safety Manager at KFC, said: "We have invested a huge amount of time and effort to make sure that our hygiene standards are second to none, so we're proud to be the first quick service restaurant company to sign an agreement like this. We're looking forward to working alongside the council to uphold our high standards in years to come."
Emma Doherty, Senior Environmental Health Officer at Woking Borough Council, said: "We have been working closely with KFC for over ten years to uphold high standards of food hygiene and preparation in all of its restaurants. We welcome this renewed commitment to maintaining high food standards and look forward to working with the company in the future."
Primary Authority is administered by regulatory delivery organisation LBRO. For companies operating in two or more local council areas, the scheme provides reliable and consistent advice from a single source when dealing with environmental health, trading standards, health and safety, and licensing services.
LBRO Chief Executive Graham Russell said: "This primary authority partnership is based on the already well-established working relationship between KFC and Woking Council, and represents a pioneering step for the fast service restaurant sector.
"By engaging in this positive approach to making the regulatory system work better, they will help other businesses and local authorities reap the benefits of smoother, more efficient ways of enforcement and compliance."
There are now 696 primary authority partnerships involving 211 businesses and covering more than 36,000 premises.
