LBRO - Business Reference Panel

Business Reference Panel

We have formed strong relationships through our business reference panel, on which many companies have a voice via leading organizations and trade associations. We maintain a close relationship with a core group of nine, comprising the Association of Convenience Stores, British Chambers of Commerce, British Retail Consortium, Confederation of British Industry, Federation of Small Businesses, Food and Drink Federation, Forum of Private Business, Institute of Directors, and National Federation of Retail Newsagents.

Their feedback helped to shape From the Business End of the Telescope, our report for policy makers. This highlights current business perspectives on local regulation and explores the way ahead in relation to inspection, advice, culture and enforcement. Since the overwhelming majority of legitimate businesses want timely, cost-effective, sustainable compliance, they would welcome an approach based on improved mutual understanding that maximizes the value of their interaction with regulators. Through our ongoing work on alternatives to regulation and the development of business-focused professional standards, we are actively taking forward the findings with our stakeholders.

Separate reports on the issues surrounding 'use by' date labelling and access to age-restricted products by children and young people have been produced by a review group formed by our panel, bringing together representatives from most sectors of the UK retail industry.

All three publications are available below.
