Partnership boost for Trading Places

A new partnership with the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN) is set to boost the number of placements on LBRO's Trading Places scheme, which seeks to bring regulatory enforcement officers and businesses closer together.

The NFRN says it wants all its 17,000 members to take part. National President Suleman Khonat said:  "Our members are responsible retailers who make strenuous efforts to comply with current legislation. We welcome the opportunity to work more closely with trading standards officers.

"Members will be inviting Trading Standards officers to spend time in their shops so they can see first hand the challenges of running a small business and how the latest legislation impacts on small shopkeepers. We believe it will also help TSOs identify ways in which they can offer retailers more targeted advice."

Trading Places is open to officers engaged across the full range of local authority enforcement but the partnership with the NFRN will particularly benefit Trading Standards officers.

LBRO Chairman Clive Grace said: "We hope that more trade associations will become as involved with Trading Places as the NFRN who see a clear benefit for their members in establishing closer relationships with Trading Standards officers. We'd like to see more officers from across the regulatory spectrum involved in Trading Places."

Trading Places is open to any size of business. Available in one or two-day formats, Trading Places gives enforcement officers the opportunity to see the impact of their decisions on companies by placing them at the business-end of regulation.

Trading Places is endorsed by business organisations including the CBI, British Chambers of Commerce and the British Retail Consortium; as well as the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Trading Standards Institute.
