LBRO Resources - National Enforcement Priorities in England

Priority Regulatory Outcomes in England

Following a formal consultation process undertaken by LBRO, the national enforcement priorities for England were updated in October 2011. Broader priority regulatory outcomes, reflecting issues of concern to citizens and businesses, now provide a focus for local regulatory activity and collaborative working with partner organisations. They were developed with the help of an expert user group of local authorities and professional and representative bodies, and a policy group comprising central government departments and national regulators.

  1. Support economic growth, especially in small businesses, by ensuring a fair, responsible and competitive trading environment
  2. Protect the environment for future generations including tackling the threats and impacts of climate change
  3. Improve quality of life and wellbeing by ensuring clean and safe neighbourhoods
  4. Help people to live healthier lives by preventing ill health and harm and promoting public health
  5. Ensure a safe, healthy and sustainable food chain for the benefits of consumers and the rural economy

Practical tools to support the use of the priorities by local authorities are in the course of development.
