Review and Scrutiny for Continuous Improvement
Local review and scrutiny are key elements of continuous service improvement. The Local Government Group recommends an approach to improvement based on a mixture of benchmarking, shared knowledge, and peer review and challenge, underpinned by a commitment to regular self-evaluation. Self assessment and peer challenge against the Excellence Framework is an important part of local service improvement. Transparency is central to local accountability. The publication of performance information - in a format that can be readily understood - enables citizens to assess the work of councils and other partner bodies.
