LBRO Resources - Understanding Local Needs and Communities

The dark shadows of rocky outcrops are reflected in a still and chilly mountain lake.

Understanding Local Needs and Communities

Environmental health, fire safety, licensing and trading standards all contribute to outcomes that matter to local people. For example, they check whether air is clean, food is fit to eat, workplaces are safe and companies trade fairly. Regulatory services are thus well placed to nurture communities and local economies, through work shaped by engagement with residents and business representatives. Two successful initiatives are highlighted in the following practice examples.

Practice Example Warrington

Doorstep crime has been reduced by circulating automated messages to the local populace through an award-winning internet consumer advice network.

Practice Example Lancashire

Underage sales compliance has been improved through a partnership approach focusing on education, training and the dissemination of information.
